Note: This engraving is probably a reverse copy of a lost engraving once thought to be published in Rome in 1580. The basis for the source and date of the lost engraving is an inscription on a Mughal miniature in the Freer Gallery of Washington DC depicting the same subject in reverse. The inscription seems to be, however, by a later European hand (see the catalog for the exhibit Christianity in Asia: Sacred Art and Splendor, p. 79).
