Woodcut. Published as an ornament on the opening page of the Decreto del S. Concilio Provincial de Lima, itself published within the Doctrina Christiana[.] Lima: Antonio Ricardo, 1584. Published also, in its second state, in the opening page of the Canto Primero of Diego D'Avalos y Figueroa (ca. 1550 – ca. 1608) Defensa de Damas[.] Lima: Antonio Ricardo, 1603 (which we illustrate). As Rubem Amaral Jr. has noted (personal communication), in the second state of this woodblock, the left side of the crossbar of the T of the Petras monogram has been removed, thus creating a monogram consisting of the initials AR of Antonio Ricardo.
