- The ephemeral monument bearing this illustration was originally built in the patio of the Capilla de San Juan de los Naturales, Convento de San Francisco, Ciudad de México. Today it survives only in the description on folio 16r of Francisco Cervantes de Salazar (ca. 1514 – ca. 1575) Túmulo imperial de la gran ciudad de Mexico [a las obsequias del invictissimo Cesar Carlos quinto]. México: Antonio de Espinoza (ca. 1530-1576), 1560, and which we reproduce above.
